More information

Integrating mātauranga Māori authentically into practice may seem challenging when we are still learning at the same time. We want to be respectful and sincere in our mahi. With a range of resources available it can still be overwhelming when wondering where or how to start.

“E hoe tō waka” aims to provide you with tools and strategies to support ongoing growth in te reo Māori so you can “paddle your waka” and have direction in your learning journey.

With a focus on activity based language acquisition and formulaic expressions, you will learn some basic grammatical structures relevant to the EC environment to launch your waka and start your haerenga (journey).

We will also explore some familiar Māori practices such as waiata and pūrākau in order to understand their significance as kaupapa Māori teaching and learning strategies.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To be intentional and structured in your learning and integration of te reo Māori.
  • To gain a deeper understanding of familiar Māori practices and how to engage with these more meaningfully in your mahi.
